Corona del Mar

Corona del Mar is Spanish for "Crown of the Sea" and is a neighborhood in Newport Beach, California.

Until the late 1920's, Corona del Mar was a tiny village, reached from the peninsula by small boat at high tide, or by a muddy dirt road that crossed over the Irvine Ranch.  Today, Corona del Mar offers many landmark places to visit, as well as some of the most trendy shops and restaurants.  Streets of Corona del Mar are named after flowers, and run in alphabetical order from Acacia to Poppy, each lined with a different variety of trees.  Beautiful flower gardens on each street display the flower from which the street is named.

The Corona del Mar community gets together every June 4th for the Annual Scenic 5K Race and 2 Mile Fun Walk and 1K Dolphin Dash.  The races begin along the bluffs overlooking the ocean and proceed through the beautiful residential streets of Corona del Mar.  Separate races for women and men are limited to 1,500 runners each.  Children age 3-10 can compete in a 1K Dolphin Dash.
